Rhaetian Railway (RhB) – Prototype and H0m Model Railroading

RhB Models in other scales than H0m

0m

0m is the scale of choice for the model railroader with much available space and even more available money – a train consisting of a Ge 6/6 II and ten cement silo cars, made with rolling stock from Model Rail, costs about 20,000.– Swiss Francs …
Jan Bruns put his finger on the problem when he wrote: “The lousy image of a ‘scale for lottery winners‘ with locomotives and cars in the upper price segment does not exactly help to make models in scale 0 more popular.” (Translation by author)

Nevertheless: If you can get over your social envy – let those who can afford it enjoy it –, you have to admit that these models have a fascination that is irresistible.
In this scale, you really have something solid in your hands; the degree of detail is perfect in all currently offered models. Like Nm, 0m is a market that is only served by small-series manufacturers since the history of Fama/Utz/Kiss found its probably definite end when Roco stopped production of its AlpinLine. The various manufacturers offer a wide range of RhB models from different eras, and in 0m, suitable tracks are available that are correctly modelled after the meter-gauge prototype.

0m model railroaders have a special problem; 0/0m models are made in two proportions: There is 1:43.5 (which is correct considering that H0, i.e., half-zero, is 1:87), and there is 1:45. I will not pursue this subject here.
